Your Voice: Health center move a no-brainer
Sep 24, 2009
EDITOR,
Since I first read about the proposed initiative that would allow the Del Puerto Health Center to move to an expanded facility, I’ve been racking my brain trying to come up with a good reason not to support it. The problem is, I can’t.
Let’s get this straight. We get an expanded health center that will bring new medical services to Patterson. It creates new jobs in the health care industry with good wages right here in Patterson. It doesn’t cost taxpayers one dime. All the City Council has to do is tweak the zoning on a plot of land just west of Baldwin Road to allow the health center to move there.
I’ve heard some people say that this initiative skirts the process. But initiatives just involve the community in the decision making. How does that skirt the process?
I also read some concerns about the cost of an election. But can’t the City Council approve the initiative and save the cost of the election, especially if it is the will of the people whom the council serves?
To me, this sounds like the ultimate no-brainer.
